What it is
The button sits in the corner of the page and opens WhatsApp with your number and a pre-written message. It loads nothing from outside, so it is light and doesn't hurt your speed score. Each click becomes a whatsapp_click event in Google Analytics and Contact in Meta, when the visitor accepted cookies.
How to use it
- In the plugin menu, open Resources → WhatsApp and type the "WhatsApp number" with the area code, e.g. (31) 98765-4321.
- Write the "Ready message", which appears already typed in the chat.
- Pick the position and, under "Show on", whether the button shows on phones, computers or both.
- Under "Pages without the button", add one address per line where it should not appear.
- Tick "Show the WhatsApp button on the site" and save.
Common problems
The plugin rejects my number.
Use a Brazilian number with the area code. Mobile numbers have 9 digits and start with 9; the plugin also checks that the area code exists.
The click doesn't show in Google Analytics.
The event is only sent for visitors who accepted statistics cookies (and marketing, for Meta). Test by accepting everything in a private window.
If something goes wrong
Untick "Show the WhatsApp button on the site" or turn off WhatsApp under Resources → Overview.
